Navigating the decade of shocks
From finance to misinformation, Shaken Not Burned brings clarity where systems collide
Shaken Not Burned
Climate, society, sustainability literacy and transforming our world
Welcome to Shaken Not Burned! Season 5 is launching next week and here’s a taster of what’s to come.
We’re all navigating a decade shaped by disruption from the pandemic to wars. Energy shocks, food insecurity, political backlash, economic strain — the stresses and strains of our societies, economies, and cultures are showing up everywhere. These aren’t abstract trends; they are shocks that shape our daily lives, our institutions, and our choices.
We’re seeing a political backlash against ESG just as we most need the data to guide decisions. In the US and Europe, fears about competitiveness are fuelling pullbacks. But the fundamentals — climate change, inequality, resource stress, supply chain fragility — are not going away.
We need to understand how systems really work, how sectors interconnect, and how change actually happens. We’re looking to build out skills in separating fact from fashion, to weigh trade-offs honestly, and to chart a course through the turbulence we face.
Season 5 is going to take that challenge head-on. In our first few episodes, we’ll explore:
Thanos Verousis (Vlerick Business School) on what’s really happening in sustainable finance
Harriet Kingaby (Conscious Advertising Network) on how climate misinformation is engineered — and countered
Steve Kenzie (UN Global Compact Network UK) on embedding sustainability in decision-making
Raysa Franca (Impatience Earth) on what to expect from COP30
Later this season we’ll cover the ISO–GHG Protocol link-up, insetting, carbon ROI, PFAs and MPAs, ocean protection, sustainable beauty with YSL — and much more.
Our aim this season is to listen past the noise. To see how the pressures of the 2020s can be understood — and acted on — with intention and understanding, not just reaction and fear.
We’ll be back in your ears soon. Until then, keep questioning and keep your curiosity sharp.
